2018 Greater Augusta FCA 7-on-7 Passing League

2018 Greater Augusta FCA 7-on-7 HS Football Overview

This year, the Greater Augusta Fellowship of Christian Athletes (GAFCA) organization transitioned back to a previous site for its 7-on-7 Passing League competitions returning to Greenbrier High School for the first time since 2015. The action takes place at 6PM each Tuesday night through the whole month of June. The 2018 edition featuring the popular interschool matchup format was the 17th annual event for GAFCA.

The format for 2018 remains the same as in previous years:

5:15 PM Teams Warm-up

5:55 Coaches Meeting at Midfield

6:05 Devotional Speaker

6:20 Teams Report to Fields

6:30 Game #1

7:00 Game #2

7:30 Game #3

8:00 Conclusion – Clean-up & Departure

Schools participating in this year’s event include Aquinas, Augusta Christian, Briarwood Academy, Greenbrier, Jefferson County, Josey, Lakeside, & Westside. As many as five fields will be in action at any one time as players & coaches seek to inundate themselves with as many summer repetitions as possible.

“Having coached high school football for 3 years back in the day, we were not allowed to do anything like this, so I can imagine how valuable it is for coaches and players alike to get so many reps before their actual start date in August,” said Greg Wilson, now in his 11th year as Area Director with GAFCA.

“We try to not only give these teams a great developmental experience, but also a spiritual one as well.”

A bevy of talented local youth pastors & even a head football coach make up the four devotional speakers (one per week).

Week 1: Patrick Gallemore, Minister to Students, Journey Community Church

Week 2: Shane Padgett, Minister to Students, Warren Baptist Church/Grovetown

Week 3: Steve Hibbitts, Head Football Coach, Lakeside HS

Week 4: Mark Sikes, Minister to Students, Hephzibah Baptist Church

“Our speakers do an outstanding job of making sure the kids and coaches both understand that there is a healthy perspective on life that transcends football,” Wilson continued. “They stress that a relationship with Jesus Christ is not necessary for athletic success, but is what God desires.”
